01 / PLAN YOUR HUNT

La Sal Mountains and your hunt boundary.

DWR’s La Sal elk management plan identifies Unit 13 and distinguishes La Sal Mountains from Dolores Triangle. The area lies in Grand and San Juan counties, Utah. Those names should prompt a closer look at the permit, not an assumption that every La Sal opportunity covers the same ground. Species-specific boundaries and dates control the hunt.

02 / PLAN YOUR HUNT

La Sal mountain goat hunts.

La Sal is Black Timber’s only confirmed guided mountain-goat area. If you hold a goat permit, send its complete details and discuss the physical preparation, footing and daily travel involved in the proposed hunt. Be candid about your experience on steep or uneven ground. Ask the team to describe the actual plan and equipment expectations before deciding that a particular itinerary fits you.

03 / PLAN YOUR HUNT

Deer, elk, bear and mountain lion.

For deer or elk, provide the full hunt number, weapon and dates so the discussion can follow your tag. Bear and mountain lion inquiries need their own review of the applicable rules and intended approach. Do not apply deer or elk rules to another species. Pronghorn and sheep are not listed as confirmed La Sal offerings on this page; explore the separate San Juan page for the region’s confirmed pronghorn and desert sheep options.

04 / PLAN YOUR HUNT

Match the logistics to the country.

Ask about the proposed meeting location, daily travel, walking and communication arrangements. Discuss weather-related changes and check current road restrictions before departure. Save the hunt boundary offline and distinguish legal access from the unit outline. Request a written scope for guide time, lodging, meals, transportation and retrieval, and confirm which arrangements you need to make yourself.

05 / BEFORE YOU BOOK

La Sal hunt questions

Is it LaSalle or La Sal? Utah DWR uses La Sal. Does every La Sal tag cover Dolores Triangle? Do not assume so; the permit and official map must identify the area you can hunt. Can a goat inquiry be handled like a deer trip? It needs its own discussion of permit requirements, terrain and preparation. What should I send Black Timber? Your species, permit details, dates, party size, available days and questions about daily effort.
